Well Catalog Search Tips

Shown below are pictures of the search tools and examples of the lists of the results that are available on the Well Catalog page. Under each is an explanation of how to use them.

Map of United States
Clicking a state on the map will produce a new page where you can choose to see a list of either all the cores or all the cuttings in that state.

Using the Search Boxes

Enter the search criteria into these boxes

Search Box Hints

To select the state use the two-letter state abbreviation as shown on the map.

Township and range values must include both the number and letter. If you want to specify a range of values for township and range separate the values with a dash (5N-10N or 3E-12E). If your area includes a region such as 12N to 5S you will need to do two searches, one for 1N-12N and then the second for 1S-5S.

Cores can be searched by formation name, entering just the first few letters is sufficient although it may return more than one formation.

Working with the Results

List of cores found by search

Clicking on the blue arrow boxes below the column names in the well list will sort (either ascending or descending) by that column. Clicking additional columns will result in a cumulative sort. Clicking "Clear Sort" near the top right corner of the page will remove previous sort criteria. Clicking "New Search" at the top left corner will return to the page with the map and search boxes where you can begin a new search. The core and cuttings lists have a True / False column to indicate thin sections or analyses. The core list also indicates if there are photos. To see and download the reports, photos or thin section images click on the underlined Library Number and then click the links on the resulting page for the individual items.

To save the well list in an Excel spreadsheet, highlight the desired rows on the web page (or use Edit - Select All) and then choose copy. Click an empty space in your Excel spreadsheet and paste.

Currently our system provides only limited search functions. To help locate specific wells use the “Find on this Page” feature of your Web Browser to search for words on the web page. If you save the list in Excel you can search by using the “Find” (ctrl+f ) function.

Core intervals and links to images

This page showing the intervals and formations can be viewed by clicking the underlined Library Number in the list of cores. We do not currently have formation data for the cuttings but the underlined cuttings library numbers will lead to a similar page showing any available thin sections or analyses. Click the links to display the images which can be saved to your computer.
